Choose your mug pattern:

We offer two pattern options for this handmade ceramic mug:

  • Full pattern: a dense, layered dripping pattern
  • Open pattern: a lighter, single-pass opened pattern

Each mug is handmade individually, so slight variations in colour and shape are part of the process – and part of the charm. You can also order our mug set of 2 if you want a matching pair.

How we create each handmade ceramic mug:

First, we programme a specific dripping rhythm into our MOCA machine. Then, we drip blue-tinted porcelain inside a plaster mould. Next, we pour liquid white porcelain over the pattern. The plaster absorbs the water over 4 to 6 minutes, forming a solid porcelain wall. After that, we remove the excess porcelain and let the mug dry overnight. The next day, we trim the edges and stamp ‘Moca’ on the base. Finally, we bisque-fire at 1020 °C, glaze the interior with a food-safe transparent coating, and fire a second time at 1240 °C.

This process was born from our graduation research at the Design Academy Eindhoven, where we built our first MOCA dripping machine. Today, we continue this work in both our Eindhoven and Nantes workshops.

Frequently asked questions about the ceramic mug:

What is the capacity of the ceramic mug?
Each mug holds 220ml, the ideal size for coffee, cappuccino, latte, and tea.

Is the ceramic mug dishwasher safe?
Yes, the mug is dishwasher safe. We recommend hand washing with hot water and soap to preserve the glaze. The blue pattern does not wear off as it is made of porcelain and embedded in the body of the piece.

Where is the ceramic mug made?
Every mug is handmade in our ceramic workshops in Eindhoven (Netherlands) or Nantes (France) by us, Studio Joachim-Morineau, using our homemade “dripping machine”.

What is the difference between a full and an open pattern?
The full pattern has a dense, layered dripping from base to about half of the cup. The open pattern has a lighter, single-pass stripe from the top downward. Both are unique: no two mugs are ever identical.

How long does shipping to Europe take?
