This small dessert ceramic plate is a perfect and unique gift, created by machine and hand-made techniques.
Created in Eindhoven with our dripping machine MOCA, each pattern is unique due to the codes we use and the colored glaze we mix for dripping. This means that the blue intensity and rhythm vary between series. You can choose between different pattern variations: one, two, or three lines, with spread or connected glaze drops.
You can also find our larger ceramic plates of Ø 19 cm on our webshop.
We make each dessert plate and every piece of Moca tableware in our ceramic workshop in Eindhoven. The tablewares are handmade with a blue pattern created with our Moca machine. Slight variations in shape and glaze application can be expected. The colors may vary due to glaze mixing while dripping the pattern. You can find more projects and ceramic experimentations on our Instagram
Dishwasher proof, however preferably wash by hand: Clean both the glazed and non-glazed areas with hot water and soap. You can find all the care and cleaning tips in our blog post!
We create our patterns using the MOCA dripping machine, a computer-controlled machine of our design. This machine drips a mixture of colored and transparent glaze inside a plaster mold, resulting in patterns that can be either “opened” or “full”.
Full: We are making sure each drop falls near the previous one. Each turn we move the axis forming patterns with different lines.
Opened: We are making sure each drop falls far from the previous one. Each turn we move the axis forming patterns with different lines.
We pour liquid white porcelain into the plate mold. The plaster absorbs the water from the porcelain, creating a thickened layer against the mold. After 4 to 6 minutes, we remove the excess liquid porcelain and let the plate dry before stamping ‘Moca’ on the interior side.
The next day, we clean the angles and improve the surface once the plate is fully dry. We then perform a bisque firing at a low temperature (around 1020°C). We finish with the pattern: we drip blue glaze on the plate before adding another layer of transparent food-safe glaze. The last step is a second fire at a higher temperature (around 1240°C).
Our collection also includes various types of porcelain espresso mugs, and larger bowls that pair beautifully together.
For shipping, we meticulously wrap the porcelain dessert plates in paper and place them inside a box, which doubles as a gift package. In case of any transporter issue, we insure the tablewares and are ready to ship you new ones.
Moca started as ceramic research during our graduation at the Design Academy of Eindhoven, based on a dripping machine. The project comes from combining technology and craft with a human/natural touch. We produced the tableware under our design studio, “Studio Joachim-Morineau” until we created our ceramic brand “Moca Tableware”.
