Each vase is unique – pattern choice

Unlike our plates, mugs and bowls – where you choose a pattern – each vase from the 10000 Drops collection is entirely individual. We write a specific dripping programme for each piece. You can tell us the style you prefer, but there is an element of randomness in the dripping – and that is intentional. The intensity of the blue, the height of the pattern and the distribution of the drops are different for every vase. You receive a genuine pièce unique.

How we make each vase

First, we pour liquid porcelain into the vase mould. The plaster absorbs the water from the porcelain, creating a thickened layer against the mould. After 30 to 40 minutes, we remove the excess liquid porcelain and leave the vase to dry before stamping “Studio Joachim-Morineau” and its series number in the neck. The next day, we clean the edges and surface of the fully dried vase. We then carry out a first firing at low temperature (around 1020 °C). Next comes the unique pattern: we apply blue glaze to the vase using the programme written specifically for this piece. Then, a second food-safe transparent glaze is added inside for waterproofing. Finally, we carry out a second firing at higher temperature (around 1240 °C). The vase is then dispatched.

This process was born from our graduation project at the Design Academy Eindhoven. The process was featured in Dezeen. The 10000 Drops vases were first presented at Dutch Design Week 2023 in Eindhoven.
